On Wednesday, August 7th, the Chamber’s Education Committee will host their annual Back to School Fun Fair at Belleville West High School from 5-7 p.m. Students from the Belleville elementary Chamber Member schools* and their families will be invited to attend. Families in attendance will receive valuable information from our business leaders while participating in activities that will allow them to leave with a backpack full of school supplies in preparation for the new school year. The event will celebrate the new school year with games, activities, snacks and more. The Education Committee hopes to provide up to 1,000 backpacks for our school-age children, but sponsorships and vendors are essential to the success of this event. If you’re like many, you have multiple mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. or samples of different personal care items clogging up your bathroom cabinets and drawers. Remember that goody bag you got from the dentist full of unopened toothbrushes, floss, or toothpaste that you have been getting and never use? While you do some spring cleaning this year, consider putting them to good use and donating them to the Chamber’s Emergency Hygiene Kit drive! Now until May 9, the Greater Belleville Chamber’s Healthcare & Community Service Agency Committee is collecting these items to help those in need in our area. Recipients range from homeless veterans to women and children needing assistance recovering from hardship. Items needed and donation sites are listed below.

Belleville Schools’ 12th Annual “Drive Away Hunger” food drive will kick off on Wednesday, March 20th and will continue thru Friday, April 12th, 2019. Donated items will benefit the following food pantries in Belleville: Interfaith-St. Paul’s, St. Vincent de Paul Cathedral & Union United Methodist. The items collected will be delivered on Tuesday, April 16th. The demand on our food pantries is overwhelming and they need our help. As we come together as a community to help drive away hunger, keep in mind the impact a community has on one another. Every item makes a difference. This year, the committee decided to take part in the annual gingerbread competition that takes place in downtown Belleville. Sponsored by the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce, the young professionals took part in the Small Business Charity contest. This category can win $500 for a non-profit of their choice. Their creation consisted mainly of varied nuts and ingredients typically found in nut mixes.
