The Belleville Chamber of Commerce held their April Issues & Eggs event on Wednesday, April 4 where leaders from across the Metro East came to hear about what the Amazon HQ2 effort taught us and the path forward. Speakers included Terry Beach, Executive Director for St. Clair County Economic Development, and Sheila Sweeney, CEO of St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. After Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced the company’s nationwide search for a new location in September of 2017, cities across the country went into a “feeding frenzy” in an attempt to attract the headquarters and 50,000 jobs. The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce’s Belle-Scott Committee hosted their 68th Annual Enlisted Dinner on Thursday, March 8th at the St. Clair Country Club to honor the enlisted men and women of Scott Air Force Base and thank them for their bravery, commitment, and sacrifice to our nation. During the event, four veterans were also honored as special guests including Robert Hahn (Army, World War II Veteran, Troy, IL), Chuck Poettker (Army, Vietnam Veteran, Breeze, IL), Tommy Stewart (Navy, World War II & Korean War Veteran, Fairview Heights, IL), and Jack Jackson (Marines, Vietnam Veteran, St. Albans, MO). The Ambassador Club of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to honor Jack Weck with the March 2018 Commitment to Community Award. Jack Weck has been a lifelong resident of Belleville and is a dedicated member of several organizations in our community. Jack completed 50 years of employment at the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Belleville with his last position as Donor Events Advisor. Jack retired in May of 2010 and has continued to help the Oblates in his retirement years. Jack Weck received the DeMazenod Award in February 1998 which is given to lay people who show exemplary service to the ministry of the Missionary Oblate Fathers.
