BELLEVILLE SCHOOL’S DRIVE AWAY HUNGER

March 13, 2023 | Community Service

A Letter from Belleville Dist. #118 Superintendent, Ryan Boike:

Hello to everyone. In the past we, as a District, have come together in a service project called “Drive Away Hunger”. This project was created by our District Character Education Committee. The response to our efforts to “drive away hunger” in our community has been overwhelming and as a result, we have delivered over 165,000 items on school buses to our Belleville food pantries.

We will hold the 2023 Drive Away Hunger service project this year. This year to make the donation bigger and better, we will continue to partner with other schools in the Belleville community. There are many more individuals and families struggling this year and the food pantries are in desperate need of supplies. Simply put, they need our help.

The project will benefit local food pantries in Belleville. I am asking each child to return a grocery bag with food for the food pantry. If you want to send more than one bag of food that is great. If you are unable to support the project with food, I understand that as well. The goal is to fill as
many school busses as possible with bags of food. We will collect supplies from March 13 – 30, 2023. The food will then be loaded from the schools on to the busses. The busses will parade to the food pantries and the food will be given to the workers.

This is a great opportunity for all of us to collectively make a difference in our community. The importance of caring, responsibility and service are critical in helping others in need. I hope you can join us in our efforts to “Drive Away Hunger” in Belleville. Thank you for your support.
