Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois Receives Committment to Community Award

The Commitment to Community Award is presented quarterly to a Chamber Member who demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and/or businesses in the greater Belleville area. The Ambassadors are honored to present this quarter’s award to the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois. The Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and providing prevention and education to the community for over 36 years. When the Center was founded in 1979, it consisted of one five-room shelter in Belleville with one part-time staffer. Today it employs 32 people and has physical presences in Monroe, Randolph, and St. Clair Counties. The Center provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence including shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, prevention education, art therapy and a 24/7 hotline. They…

Judge Milton Wharton Honored with Commitment to Community Award

The Ambassador Club’s Commitment to Community Award is presented quarterly to a Chamber member who demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and/or businesses in the greater Belleville area. The Ambassador Club is proud to present this quarter’s award to Judge Milton Wharton. Judge Wharton has a long history of public service in the greater Belleville community. After graduating from DePaul University in 1974, Wharton began working in the St. Clair County Public Defender’s Office and was eventually appointed an associate judge in St. Clair County Circuit Court in 1976. This is where he met the late Dr. Peter Soto, a pathologist, who encouraged him to get involved with the St. Clair County branch of the American Red Cross. The Chamber welcomed Angela Grossmann-Roewe, Cooling Concepts, Relevant Connection, Righteous Pig BBQ, and Ruby’s Gaming to its membership in April 2016. Angela Grossmann-Roewe Angela Grossmann-Roewe was appointed to fill the vacated St. Clair County Board District 12 seat in July 2013. She currently serves on the county’s Environmental Committee, Public Safety Committee, and Parks and Property Committee. A lifelong resident of District 12, Grossmann-Roewe is a marketing and advertorial writer and professional real estate photographer in St. Clair, Madison, and Monroe counties. She is a graduate of Cathedral Grade School, Belleville Township High School East, and McKendree College where she received a bachelor’s of science degree in political science with a minor in journalism. Wendy J. Pfeil named Executive Director of The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce

Belleville, IL., May 24, 2016 –  Wendy J. Pfeil has been named the next Executive Director of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce, replacing John Lengerman, retiring May 31, 2016. Ms. Pfeil, who has a degree in Accounting, has worked at the Chamber for 8 years and currently serves as the Director of Membership Development.  She has been a tireless advocate in developing and maintaining the strong membership base the Chamber now enjoys.   She has collaborated with John Lengerman and the Chamber staff in building the capacity and influence of the Chamber, enhancing existing or introducing new events, and supporting mutually beneficial networks and relationships among business, government, education and not-for-profit organizations. Call for Sponsors & Vendors at the Education Committee’s Annual Back to School Fun Fair

On Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016, The Chamber’s Education Committee will host their annual Back to School Fun Fair at Belleville West High School from 5-7 p.m. Students from the Belleville elementary Chamber Member schools* and their families will be invited to attend. Families in attendance will receive valuable information from our business leaders while participating in activities that will allow them to leave with a backpack full of school supplies in preparation for the new school year. The event will celebrate the new school year with games, activities with involvement from high school students and more. The Education Committee hopes to provide up to 1,000 backpacks for our school age children, but sponsorships and vendors are essential to the success of this event.
